Hi Everyone! We’re starting a new series on the Development Innovations Blog today! We’ve got such a young, diverse and vibrant team and everyone has their hands in a different form of tech. We wanted to follow their day, learn about their work and how they use tech, whether it’s ICT or hardware, anything that makes their day easier. Welcome to the inaugural post of DI’s Tech in a Day.

Hi! My name is Sophat and I work with Development Innovations on both their Communications and Events teams, and I also work with BarCamp Cambodia with design, logisitics and media. I’m originally from Banteay Mean Chey province, where I was involved with several youth and social activities since 2006 during high school and university.

One of my major activities is graphic design. Graphic design is the process of visual communication and problem solving through the correct use of typography, space, image and color. It’s not easy to be a graphic designer. I started doing graphic design for Barcamp Cambodia. The first try doesn’t always work out. But I keep working and finally, I make a good product that everyone is happy with, including me. So now I do all types of graphic design work: flyers, posters, name tags, certificates, banners, the list goes on. Not just for BarCamp Cambodia, but for other events too. Check it out:

But graphic design requires communication and a medium to do it. The tech I want to talk about today is social media.  Social media is a tool that I use all the time for work and communication. And both are on Facebook, so why should I use anything else? It’s very easy to communicate with them. Thanks to social networking and the abundance of new messaging apps, people are expecting more when it comes to communicating with colleagues, friends, and families. Here is a day in the life of my tech: Facebook.

Figure 1. I’m starting this day at night J Here, I’m chatting with volunteer and team for preparing before an event we have the next day.
Figure 2. I’m still at home and I spend my morning time responding to new alerts on the Facebook pages I manage.

Figure 3. It’s night again! But this time, I’m spending a late one at the office.
