Title: Young Innovator
Location: Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Period of Performance: 5 months, including initial 1 month on-the-job training
Time commitment: Full-time position (40 hours per week from Monday to Friday)

The Young Innovator Program (YIP) is Development Innovations’ young professionals program, an opportunity for young Cambodian innovators to build real-world skills that help define, design and create solutions to solve local problems. Young Innovators will work alongside technical mentors and support defined projects focused on addressing development challenges through ICTs. Young Innovators will receive training, mentorship and access to a network of like-minded individuals who are passionate about the potential of new technologies in Cambodia. DI is currently recruiting the next cohort of Young Innovators, for the January – June 2019 period.

Young Innovators will:

  • Be assigned to support a team within Development Innovations, including Communications, IT, Digital Design, M&E, or Video;
  • Learn innovation processes and develop soft skills needed to excel in ICT4D, including problem solving, effective communication and leadership;
  • Receive training on human centered design, ICT4D project design, adaptive management, video production, social media strategy and communications;
  • Shadow one technical lead/mentor and take on assignments related to team placement;
  • Participate in exposure visits to our Development Innovations’ partners;
  • Receive membership to Development Innovations Young Innovators Alumni Network;
  • Receive a monthly salary;

Scope of Work:

  • Participate in technical training including human center design, smartphone video training, social media training, storytelling, blogging, pitching, among others;
  • Contribute to one long term technical assignment in line with project activities;
  • Contribute to content creation for storytelling and lessons learned;
  • Provide operational, administrative, and/or logistical support to assigned Development Innovations team;
  • Attend external events, meetings and knowledge building activities outside of Development Innovations;
  • Market and promote DI’s services and activities to partners;
  • Work across teams to support arising project needs, including event support, records management, take notes during meetings or trainings and translate communication products from English-Khmer and Khmer-English;
  • Note: Some travel may be required outside of Phnom Penh;


  • Weekly progress reports to supervisor against Professional Development Plan;
  • Produce two-minute video about the YIP experience;
  • YIP Final Report at the end of the program outlining YIP experience;

Required Qualifications:

  • Recent graduates from university;
  • Demonstrated interest in innovation and technology for development;
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm & curiosity, willingness to learn and be challenged;
  • Strong time management and attention to details;
  • Able to commit to the full term of the Young Innovator Program;
  • Excellent Khmer skills, proficiency in English;
