Development Innovations (DI) is a six-year USAID-funded project that helps civil society organizations, technology companies, social enterprises and young innovators to design and use information and communications technology (ICT) solutions and employ innovative processes to tackle Cambodia’s development challenges.

DI works to encourage inclusive access to tech education, and improve access to educational opportunities for all Cambodians, with an emphasis on encouraging more women to get involved in the field to address the gender gap in various tech fields. As part of the inclusive tech approach, we are seeking for a consultant to facilitate part of the Cambodia Technovation 2019 program, a global technology entrepreneurship program and competition for girls. The consultant will help design and deliver the design thinking training for Cambodian mentors involved in the 2019 program.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Design Thinking Consultant will provide the design thinking session for all Technovation 2019 mentors. The Design Thinking consultant is required to build part of the mentor training curriculum, which will be distributed to all mentors for their use in guiding their Technovation teams during the 2019 season. Specifically, the Consultant will:

  • Develop a training curriculum on design thinking including principles, methods, tools;
  • Facilitate a practical design thinking session and guide the mentors through a project-based learning activity to identify a community problem, prototype, and user test their project;
  • Coach participants throughout the training session and provide an inspiring training environment;
  • Provide advice to the 40 people on measuring results of the design thinking section of the training course.

Required Qualifications:

  • At least 2-3 years experiences in training, design thinking facilitation or consulting on human centered design;
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience;
  • Understanding of design thinking and human centered design in context of Cambodia and/or in a development context highly desirable;
  • Khmer fluency preferred; English fluency required;
  • Ability to adapt messaging based on audience needs.

This position reports to the Senior Innovation Program Manager.
