The 3rd Cambodia Science & Engineering Festival (#CSEF2017) was a big success, attracting more than 23,000 people over the three days at the beautiful Olympic Stadium, an iconic building from the 1960s designed by renowned Cambodian architect Van Molyvann. In early March, the festival participants enjoyed action-packed events, hands-on booths to test technologies like our partners Arc Hub and Doy Doy, science experiments, exhibitions and showcases from USAID and the US Embassy, British Embassy, NGOs, and local heroes in the tech scene.

This year, Development Innovations partnered with People in Need Cambodia, World Education Cambodia, Kampuchean Action for Primary Education (KAPE), Technovation Cambodia, and Aide et Action Cambodia to showcase their information and communications technology (ICT)  tools. Specifically, our booths showcased the Flood Warning Tool, Technology for Education Systems Transformation (TEST) literacy application, Aan Khmer, Smart Books, Asean Quiz, Khmer Library and Khmer Educator. You can learn more about the projects we have helped fund on our project dashboard.

We also tested two short quizzes during the festival to find out more about our users. The first rapid survey got 151 responses and asked questions about participants’ favorite social media apps. The top five social media resources for these youth (all identified that they were from 13 to 24 years old) in Cambodia are Facebook, Facebook Messenger, YouTube, Instagram, and LINE. See detailed results below.

The second quiz was designed to test participants’ basic understanding of ICT in a fun way. 102 out of 142 responses (72%) passed this test! This means our young people are stepping up to learn about the latest technology trends and ready for the digital challenges ahead in Cambodia.
